Butterflies

Given the reason that today was a holiday and Mr. Sun was at his best ,i decided that it was best that i stayed indoors. But how to kill time was my biggest concern.
I thought for a moment..! How much longer will I engage my self on the television, mobile and computer??that is when this thought come along what would this generation kids do ???

After school there routine would be like me now and even if they would consider the option of playing outside , A sound “Don’t go out and play!what if something happens to u,better u play something around the house! Here have this new phone and play something in this or browse for something and play”  would be the standard dialogue of 98% of the mothers.

That too for the families that reside in flats the situation is still worse ,from the start there kids have been raised in solitude and given the impression that knowing there neighbour was a sin .

But I was blessed to not have the influence of technology when I was growing up,all I know were the engaging outdoor games.

Those were the days where our feet had this special bond with our land .

I couldn’t remember them all but here are a few of my childhood memories -

1.Bambaram (top)-inside a circle there could be only one bambaram and all others would quietly think of a way to get that one out of the circle by forcefully aiming at it with there bambarams

But the fact is the bambaram which gets hit most will spin the most. Just like how the bambaram constantly gets hurt and improvises itself the heart which faces the most troubles turns out be the strongest.

2.Pachakuthirai -this game is about jumping over a person while he bow’s down, for every round we jump over him he raise up a bit and in the final round he would be standing and we would have to jump over that as well.
This thought us that we have the strength to jump over (overcome) any problem that comes our way .

3.Goli- even if we buy these marbles in different different colours they get destroyed by the bigger ones.

Likewise Break all of your barriers.

4.Gilli -It came way before cricket and is like its great grandfather.

5.Pattam(kite)- we would take old newspapers and would stick sticks to it using cooked rice so that the sticks don’t move and the happiness when they sore in the sky is as if we were flying .

The paper would have never flown on its own it flew only because of the support of the stick we attached to it ,just like the stick we too should help the people around us.

6.Thirudan Police (Thief and the Cop)-one group of police would have to find the group of thief’s.

This game showed me that when we work as a team we can do almost anything, and in these days they are actually taking classes on how to work as a team in our offices ,while we have already mastered it in our childhood .

And there are still loads of other games and since I can’t explain them all I have listed them below
*kannamboochi(ice boys)
*pandi (skipping stones)
*cycle race
*kalla manna(something like Rock Paper Scissors)
*country separation
And obviously cricket too

The days where the connection between our bare foot and the mud were so strong are now long gone!!! They kinda disappeared.!!

Only when we see the scars in our hands and legs we realise that just as the scars don’t heal so does our memories

To lockup a kid who has every right to run around and play inside a homes is like cutting down their wings .

Let’s let those butterflies spread their wings and fly independently.
